Pace Payments was in Berlin for the Regis24 GmbH Executive Forum 2026: two days of great conversations with decision-makers across the industry. A highlight was the panel on AI in debt collection, where our Co-Founder Kasper Kripalani joined Dr. Constanze Kurz for a lively discussion.
Three things we're taking home:
1. Regulating AI starts with defining AI.
Clear rules for AI are necessary. But the panel made one thing obvious: neither regulation nor society has a clear definition of what we're actually talking about. Where does a statistical model end and real intelligence begin, and is that line the same for private and business use? Until we answer that, we're regulating a moving target.
2. The industry is already automated. What's missing is intelligence.
Most debt collection processes already run without manual input, but they follow rigid rules, not data. A dunning run doesn't know whether a debtor can pay, can be reached, or needs a different approach. At Pace, we believe the next step isn't more automation. It's adaptive intelligence that learns from every case and adjusts workflows in real time.
3. Data protection isn't an obstacle. It's an expectation.
Businesses and consumers want the same thing: systems that are secure, regulated and audited. Anyone building intelligent workflows for data as sensitive as debt carries a special responsibility. Our visit to the Stasi Museum the evening before made that very real. In Berlin, data in the wrong hands isn't a hypothetical. It's history.
Thank you, Regis24 GmbH, for the invitation, the panel and all the conversations along the way.
